Lost Society is a Finnish rock band which was formed in 2010. They caught my attention with their song ‘Awake’ which I came across on YouTube.
The band’s lineup consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Samy Elbanna, guitarist and backing vocalist Arttu Lesonen, bassist and backing vocalist Mirko Lehtinen, and drummer Taz Fagerström.
Lost Society is among the rare bands which produces quality rock music even in today’s age. Their style of music is reminiscent of the rock era in 1980s and 1990s.
Song Meaning
Awake is one of their best songs and this is my take on it. The song is about the singer’s helpless situation where he is literally crying for help, but there is no one to support him. It is then that he comes to the realization that he must face his challenges himself.
Often times, we are faced with difficulties that we have to endure when we can no longer run from them. He may have felt powerless in the past but he has now undergone an awakening which has given him a new vision and hope.
It is important to know that knowledge is a form of power in itself and that once we know what we need to know we can overcome any challenge. We always have what we need in order to overcome our problems, because life never presents us with challenges to overcome if we don’t have the required resources for it.
It is quite an inspirational song which motivates people to move forward. It makes us realize that we aren’t the only ones having a difficult time in life and there are others facing the same situation.
