Being Delusional: My personal experience and learning

Being delusional is a problem that even I have at times. Well, to be honest I guess I am way more delusional than other people. How big of a problem is it and where should your boundaries lie?

Now, it is very important to understand where your boundaries lie. What I mean is that obviously one should consider pros and cons of something before diving into it. Now by delusional, I am mainly referring to career plans and dreams because that is what I want to talk about. Otherwise, people are delusional in many other things like love etc.

A lot of people have high expectations regarding the future. A lot of people are confident on what they can achieve in life. It is actually quite hard to predict if someone is being delusional or realistic. Most crazy dreams might appear as delusional to some people. However, to the dreamer who is having these crazy dreams, they might mean a lot. And who knows when those dreams might turn into a reality.

Coming to my personal experience, I have high expectations from the future too. I have crazy dreams which I don’t feel comfortable to share in front of people. I have been delusional about several things in the past. The first time I was being delusional was probably when I started my preparation for CAT exam hoping to get into IIM Ahmedabad. Ohk, so yeah that was an aim at one point of time. It was 6 months before the CAT exam that I decided to give CAT and I wanted to get through for (NOT Indore, or Lucknow, or Kozhikode, or Calacutta or Bangalore) IIM Ahmedabad. FMS was in my consideration too. LOL(I really find it funny now that I think of it). So, I think you would have a considerable idea of how delusional I was being. Well, to be honest I was willing to do whatever it took to get there which I think I did. I made a few mistakes but that was just part of the process (the process is always there to blame…LOL).

As I did my preparation for CAT, I realized it was not all that easy as I had thought it would be. I couldn’t take any coaching classes because that was how my condition was. For some reason I did not even give as many mocks as I should have. That was obviously a grave mistake. Now, the thing is I have been successful at some things and I have failed miserably in some.

Coming to blogging, blogging is obviously a side hustle that I have at the moment. I hope I am able to generate a good amount of money from it. Now, at times I do think whether I am being delusional about it or not. I know the idea of such things sounds crazy to a lot of people. But the thing is it is not wrong to have big goals. It is absolutely fine to dream big. And obviously you must take action in the direction you want to go to, because if you don’t you will never know if it was the right thing or not.

When I read the ‘The Power of your Subconscious mind’, I read about how writers tap into their subconscious mind and it keeps giving them stories to write about. So, the thing is I wanted to try it on myself and surprisingly, I have found this to be true. I always get ideas to write about whenever I want something to write about. So, somehow when I started blogging it was just an experiment and I realized that I actually had passion for it. At first, when I thought that I could make a lot of money from it, it seemed a bit delusional to me however hoping for the best I decided to do it anyway.

The thing is that you must trust the universe and know that regardless of anything things will be alright. You will get signs which will encourage you to go further in that direction. Writing became such a passion that I found it really hard to stay away from it. The process became so addictive that I found myself doing it again and again.

As far as being delusional is concerned, yes you should not be taking things too far. Be realistic but hope for the best. Obviously, life is too unpredictable to say what is going to work and what is not. But you should definitely try things that are worth doing because you never know what might work for you. Don’t wait for things to be perfect. If you are getting the urge to try something go ahead and do it. Taking my example, I am very young and I never thought that I would be writing blogs on philosophy. But, I can wait for 20 years just to gain life experience to have a better understanding on what philosophy really means. You have to act as soon as you can.

Lastly, analyse situations but don’t get unnecessarily scared of them. Take action if you feel inspired to do so. It is good to have big dreams because I feel only people who have them make it big in life. Being realistic is fine. But anything can become a reality. I don’t want to advise you on whether you should look at probabilities of success or not. I don’t want people to be taking the wrong advice from me. If you want to consider probabilities of success then you can if you don’t want to then don’t. It is up to you. Read the signs of the universe and interpret them accordingly. Don’t act when you are in doubt. Wait for things to become clear and take your decision accordingly.
