Song Meaning

Everybody’s fool is depicting the life of a typical pop star. It is referring to the notion that pop stars seem to have a great life, but that is what it looks on the outside to other people. The media shows their image in a way that seems quite glamorous however that is not the case most of the time.

In the video, we can see the pop stars undergoing a lot of mental issues, depression and trauma. This is ironically what does seem to happen to a lot of celebrities even though they are financially well off. Amy Lee talks about the fact that she produced this music video for her younger sister who was getting influenced by the pop icons. A lot of children get influenced by what the media portrays and try to replicate that lifestyle and mannerisms into their life which might be detrimental for them.

My little sister was really getting into these, I don’t want to offend anyone, but like really fake, cheesy, slutty female cracker-box idols, and it really pissed me off. She started dressing like them and she was like 8 years old. So I gave her the talk and I wrote a song.

The video emphasizes the fact that celebrities are scrutinized for things that go wrong in their life. Their privacy is compromised and anything they do wrong is out there for the world to see. So, their life may seem like a great one other people, but pop stars realize that they are only putting on a fake persona for the outside world. They fool the world at first but when their problems are displayed to everyone else, they become everybody’s fool.
