The Kill is the trademark song of the band ‘Thirty Seconds to Mars’. It was the song that gained the most traction out of all the songs that they have ever produced. It was the second single from their album ‘A Beautiful Lie’ and was released on 24th January 2006.

Even today after so many years, it is the song that a lot of people remember Thirty Seconds to Mars for. The song in my opinion was among the most influential rock songs released during the 2000 to 2010 decade.

Song Meaning and Explanation

The song is about one’s relationship with oneself. Even though, it sounds like a one sided love song about heartbreak, the song as clarified by Jared Leto is about the relationship with yourself.

‘The Kill’ is a song that a lot of people could hear and think was about a relationship with someone else, but it’s really about a relationship with yourself. It’s about confronting your fear and confronting the truth about who you are.

The song to me is about a situation where in people loose themselves to fit in with the crowd. A lot of times society molds people in a way which is not true to their authentic selves.

When that happens, people usually ignore their true feelings and ambitions in order to not be seen as different. This in turn causes conflicts and identity crisis among people.

The song is about coming to terms with who you are as a person and perhaps what you want to do and how you want to live your life.

It is important to know that we hold the frame and have the power when we are truly authentic. We don’t fall for cheap tricks and are not manipulated by others when we know who we are and what we deserve.

The song is among my favorites to listen to. Let me know what your opinion regarding the song in the comments. Have fun, take care and bye.
